Rihanna is suing the British clothing brand Topshop; there’s NO LOVE!
The songstress is suing the company after they refused to stop selling t-shirts with her famous face plastered on them. Rihanna didn’t give Topshop permission to use her image on the tees. And she ain’t seeing signs, ain’t seeing dolla signs from the sale of the shirts either. Topshop did offer up a measley $5,000 to Rihanna, which is pretty much a slap in the fact that’s making those tees such a hot seller in the first place. So the homie Rihanna upped the ante and filed a lawsuit for a cool $5 million.
A source close to Rihanna says,
“What is most offensive for Rihanna is that they basically told her, ‘Go to hell. We don’t care; we are going to continue selling you.’ Topshop is now in the United States. They set up in Manhattan and Nordstrom, but they know better than to do this in the US because they would get in trouble.”The tricky thing is…under British law, the artist isn’t protected and Rihanna‘s case is on shaky ground.
The source shared that Rihanna:
“has spent almost $1 million in litigation at this point. She says it’s the principle, and wants to make a statement about it. They are taking advantage of artists. It is just exploitation. What they are doing is wrong.”And Topshop finally spoke out about the matter and released the following statement:
“This issue is related to a T-shirt provided to Topshop by a third-party supplier. We are aware it is the subject of litigation. [There are] public documents” available for inspection in the London court. The amount of damages sought has not been articulated anywhere in the claimant’s document.”
Dayum, can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
What do you think about Rihanna’s t-shirt?
